Nothing is better for a pair of Chicago engagement photographers than when a couple wants a retro feeling, glam shoot at an iconic Chicago location with sweeping views of the city in perfectly styled looks. Taylor & Russ brought it so hard to their engagement shoot that we are literally breaking it into three blog posts so we can share all the goodness we created with them, to you.
Chicago Engagement Photo Shoot
Most engagement shoots go like this: a couple hires us, we ask where they want to shoot, they say they don’t care and for us to choose, we show up, take a few hundred photos for an hour, we leave. This is NOT what happened for Taylor & Russ’s Chicago engagement shoot.
Taylor is a planner. Scratch that. Taylor is a planner’s planner. And we truly couldn’t scream more about how incredible this was for their shoot. Taylor knew exactly what she wanted and had an amazing vision for their engagement session. She planned the location, their full looks, and the rest was up to us to bring her vision to life. She was definitely the producer and stylist and we played the role of the director of photography.
Taylor sent us a mood board of what she wanted the engagement shoot to feel like. The board was filled to the brim with retro, black and white, flash photography and film photos of all the icons from the Kennedy’s to Audrey. We pulled inspiration from this timeless, vintage imagery and were determined to make this happen for Taylor and Russ.
Chicago Wedding Venue | The Robey
The Robey was the most perfect place for the shoot. It has the most immaculate views of the city coupled with the perfect architecture to create the perfect backdrop for this Chicago engagement shoot. As I shot, I was inspired by the harsh lines and contrast of their indoor spaces and wanted to use that as much as possible. I felt more like I was on the set of Mad Men than in Chicago. It was perfect.
